Event-Triggered and Self-Triggered Control

چکیده
Recent developments in computer and communication technologies have led to a new type of large-scale resource-constrained wireless embedded control systems. It is desirable in these systems to limit the sensor and control computation and/or communication to instances when the system needs attention. However, classical sampled-data control is based on performing sensing and actuation periodically rather than when the system needs attention. This article discusses eventand self-triggered control systems where sensing and actuation is performed when needed. Event-triggered control is reactive and generates sensor sampling and control actuation when, for instance, the plant state deviates more than a certain threshold from a desired value. Self-triggered control, on the other hand, is proactive and computes the next sampling or actuation instance ahead of time. The basics of these control strategies are introduced together with references for further reading.

Analysis of Applying Event-triggered Strategy on the Model Predictive Control
In this paper, the event-triggered strategy in the case of finite-horizon model predictive control (MPC) is studied and its advantages over the input to state stability (ISS) Lyapunov based triggering rule is discussed. In the MPC triggering rule, all the state trajectories in the receding horizon are considered to obtain the triggering rule. Clearly, the finite horizon MPC is sub-optimal with ...
متن کاملThe Study of Breakdown Voltages for Triggered Spark Gap Switches
This study explains the breakdown mechanism in different triggered spark gap switches. Two different trigger electrode configurations are tested for the switch predischarge operation in a nitrogen laser circuit. The behavior of the breakdown voltage, when a trigger pulse is applied to the trigger electrode, is investigated, and the results are reported. Based on the experimental measurements ne...
متن کاملEvent-triggered and self-triggered control design with guaranteed performance
In digital control applications, controllers are typically implemented in a time-triggered fashion, in which control tasks are executed periodically. This design choice is motivated by the fact that it enables the use of a well-developed theory on sampled-data systems. This design choice, however, leads to over-utilization of the available communication resources, and/or a limited lifetime of b...
متن کاملLyapunov Event-triggered Stabilization with a Known Convergence Rate
A constructive tool of nonlinear control systems design, the method of Control Lyapunov Functions (CLF) has found numerous applications in stabilization problems for continuoustime, discrete-time and hybrid systems. In this paper, we address the fundamental question: given a CLF, corresponding to the continuous-time controller with some predefined (e.g. exponential) convergence rate, can the sa...
متن کاملSelf - Triggered Control : trading actuation for computation . ∗
Event-triggered and self-triggered control have recently been proposed as alternatives to the well established periodic implementation of control loops on digital platforms. In a self-triggered implementation, the control task is responsible for computing the new actuator values as well as the next instant of time at which the state should be sampled, the control law recomputed, and the actuato...
